Health insurance

If you register as a resident in Namibia, there are six private health insurance companies where you can apply for admission.

With comparable services, the monthly costs are 30-50% cheaper than a German health insurance company.

Ongoing treatments and chronic illnesses usually have a waiting period of one year after admission. Afterwards, the costs of these medications and treatments will also be covered.

Attention! For almost all of them, the maximum starting age is 59 years. For those over 60 there is only “Heritage Health”.

Therefore, below is a list of some international health insurance policies for which residence in Germany is not necessary.

Unfortunately, Heritage Health is not well received by Namibian doctors due to poor payment practices, so you usually have to advance your treatment costs and then claim them back from the health insurance company. Payments 3 months later are not uncommon.

In total, just over 200,000 Namibians had private health insurance in 2021. This corresponds to a population share of around eight percent.
